Sample Curriculum

This is a sample rotation schedule showing the various rotations in each of the three years of residency. All rotations in the first year are required; the following years have increasing flexibility and variety for electives. There are many different rotations available for individual / elective study not included above. The rotation requirements of Family Practice change periodically, and the curriculum shown demonstrates the flexibility to accommodate such changes.

Quincy Family Practice uses a Block system: each block consists of exactly 4 weeks, and by doing so, additional time was created in order to accommodate more room for electives and, potentially, time to pursue individual interests. These interests, when presented to the Curriculum Committee in the form of a formal proposal, may be accepted as an elective rotation (the most interesting electives: Aquatic Medicine and Missionary trip to Kenya).

Residents have the opportunity to pursue a career in obstetrics or not. After the two required months in the first year, our residents can choose the obstetrics curriculum, which can include clinics in Lewis County, MO or Pittsfield, IL, as well as three additional months of inpatient obstetrics in the second and third year. Residents in the obstetrical curriculum have plenty of time to pursue individual interests.
