Curricula Descriptions

Allergy/Immunology Elective Curriculum (2 or 4 weeks)

Goal—Broad, General
  1. Improve assessment and treatment of common allergy and immunology-related health conditions.
  2. Better recognize and facilitate treatment of patients requiring specialty care.
Objective---specific and measurable, how, knowledge, skills and attitudes
  1. Identify and treat poorly controlled/unstable asthma.
  2. Interpret serum allergy test.
  3. Interpret allergy skin tests.
  4. Develop standard approach to the suspected immunodeficient patient.
  5. Understand pros/cons to allergy testing.
  6. Understand pros/cons to Immuno therapies (i.e. allergy shots)
  7. Develop better understanding of: allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, food allergies, urticaria, angioedemas.
Rotation Experiences/Activities (Items marked with * address other curriculum goals and objectives but are integrated during this rotation.)
  • Follow attending in outpatient and inpatient setting having first contact with as many patients as possible.
