Rural Medicine Curriculum
| Goals: |
- To increase the understanding of specific health, developmental, and situational realities of rural patients and settings.
- To increase understanding of the role of Family Physicians in rural health care.

| Objective: |
- To introduce family practice residents to the issues and concepts unique to rural health care.
- To increase resident knowledge and awareness of how communications and transportation can be used to neutralize the potential for professional isolation.
- To increase residents’ appreciation of benefits and difficulties of the rural lifestyle.
- To recognize the value of increased clinical skills and knowledge in areas where technological resources are scarce.
- To increase the residents’ awareness, knowledge and skills in practice management unique to the rural settings.
- Be able to describe how Critical Access Hospitals benefit rural communities.
- To identify innovative health care practices, management, and systems designed to increase access to care in rural areas.
- Identification of counseling techniques, strategies, resources available and effective for rural patients
